The First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is based on a promise made by Our Lord Jesus Christ during an Apparition to St. Margaret Mary. This promise was implicitly approved by the Church in the 1920 canonization of St. Margaret Mary. The promise reads:

"I promise you in the excessive Mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful Love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the Grace of Final Penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving the Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment."

Purpose of the Devotion: Reparation to the Heart of Jesus

In order to receive these graces we should:
1-Recieve without interruption Holy Communion for nine consecutive first Fridays.
2-Have the intention of honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus persevering in our faith until the end.
3-Offer each Holy Communion as an act of expiation for the offenses committed against this Holy Sacrament.
4-Pray: "O Lord, who in the Heart of Your Son, wounded by our sins, has deposited infinite treasures of grace - we pray, that upon receiving the homage of our love, we have offered you a sufficient reparation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Heart of Jesus, I trust in You."

First Friday Devotion and Promises

First Saturday Devotion and Promises

On December 10, 1925, our Loving Mother Mary, appearing to Lucy, the only survivor of those who saw our Lady at Fatima, spoke these heart-rending words: “My child, behold My Heart surrounded with the thorns which ungrateful men place therein at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console Me. Announce in My name that I promise to assist at the hour of death, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall:

  1. Go to confession and receive Holy Communion,

  2. Recite the Rosary,

  3. And keep Me company for a quarter of an hour while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary,

  4. With the intention of making reparation to Me. I promise to assist them at the hour of their death with all the graces necessary to save their souls.”

Our Lord told Sister Lucia that there are five ways that people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

1 – Offenses against Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception – by denial or ridicule

2 – Offenses against Our Lady’s Perpetual Virginity

3 – Offenses against Our Lady’s Divine Maternity, refusing to accept her as the Mother of all mankind

4 – Those who implant in children’s hearts, indifference, contempt and even hate against this Immaculate Mother

5 – Insults directed against her sacred images – ridicule and the infliction of damage to them.

    The Promise

Our Lady promised to assist all those who will practice the devotion of the first Saturday on five consecutive months with the graces necessary for salvation at the hour of their death.
