Troop 40 High Adventure Program
Troop 40 isn’t just about monthly campouts and learning the basics of Scouting—it also offers an exciting High Adventure Program for older Scouts who are ready to take on bigger challenges. This program is separate from the regular troop activities and is designed to provide a true adventure experience, pushing Scouts to develop leadership, teamwork, and self-reliance in unique environments.
The Troop 40 High Adventure Program plans one major adventure each summer. Scouts who want to participate must be at least 14 years old, have achieved First Class rank, be actively participating the regular troop program, and receive approval from the Scoutmaster. Once approved, these Scouts form the High Adventure Crew, which plays a key role in planning the trip. The crew meets regularly to decide the next year’s destination, plan logistics, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Recent trips have been incredible experiences. In 2023, Scouts ventured to Philmont High Adventure Ranch in New Mexico, tackling backcountry hiking and camping in the mountains. In 2024, the crew journeyed to Northern Tier in Minnesota for a canoeing expedition through pristine lakes and forests. In 2025, Troop 40 explored the waters of the Sea Base in the Bahamas, taking part in sailing, snorkeling, and marine conservation activities. Looking ahead, in 2026, the troop will be revisiting Philmont, giving Scouts another chance to experience the adventure and challenge of the New Mexico backcountry.
High Adventure trips are not just about fun—they’re about growth. Scouts learn advanced outdoor skills, strengthen leadership abilities, and create lifelong memories. For many, the High Adventure Program is a highlight of their Scouting experience, offering challenges and experiences that go far beyond what’s possible in a typical troop setting.
